1.5 billion people worldwide are challenged by chronic pain.
I can’t even begin to count the number of individuals I have run into this past week who are dealing with some form of pain. Shoulder, knee, hip, elbow, ankle, neck and the ever so annoying...back pain.

Not to mention other distresses such as headaches, nerve issues,  gastrointestinal pain, fibromyalgia, post surgical, diabetic, emotional (yes this counts) and the even minor (but not so minor)…I slept wrong…kind of pain. 

If you have followed me for a while, then you know for years I have been challenged by pain…pain so severe that at times I thought I would not make it.

Pain that led me to a total hip replacement surgery.  Pain that has isolated me, immobilized me and left me feeling that I had no purpose. For those of you who have had similar challenges, you know what I am talking about.

Even if its emotional pain, the effects can be life altering. 

Through my personal experience I seem to have become known as quite the authority on chronic pain and illness. So much so that people are now seeking me out to help them navigate the complexities and overwhelm of their battle. They are looking to get their life back and know that I can help.

As for me, once I decided that I was not going to be a victim, I set upon a journey to discover how to live a life of quality and significance despite my circumstances. Along the way I have found many tools, resources and techniques that ease my discomfort.

In today’s Rise Up Well, I would like to share with you my own anti-inflammatory “brew”.

Even if you have no pain whatsoever, if you are interested in things such as healthy aging, lower blood sugar, better circulation, awesome immunity, optimal digestion and brain power….then this BREWS FOR YOU TOO!

Every morning when I rise I heat up the kettle and mix my anti inflammatory concoction. I have been using this formula for quite some time with noticeable benefits. I also find that ingesting something warm and nourishing, yet energizing, really begins my day well…and my body thanks me for it. 

My simple RISE UP BREW consists of 4 ingredients:

(first put ingredients 2-4 into your favorite mug, then pour the hot water over it and let it sit for a couple of minutes) 

  • Heated purified water...your digestive system works better with room temperature or warm water. Cold water shuts down your “digestive fire” and slows absorption and motility. Both of which are essential for optimal digestion. 
  • Organic pure cinnamon...I use a tincture because it seems to mix better in my brew. Cinnamon has been proven to reduce systemic and acute inflammation. Systemic inflammation is a widespread problem in today’s society. It is a leading cause in the rise of chronic disease. Because cinnamon boosts circulation, it helps me with my arthritis and Raynaud’s syndrome. It helps to stimulate and push circulation into the joints. Other benefits are lowering bad cholesterol, aid with type 2 diabetes, it may help symptoms of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, is an anti-fungal, antibacterial, and antiviral. There is even early evidence that it may help with cancer. 
  • Organic Ginger Root...I use the fresh pressed juice or the peeled root itself. Never consume the peel because mold and bacteria are high on the outside of this root. Many juice places put the whole thing in the juice. I have never understood that. You can peel the root, slice it up, put it in your mug and then add the hot water.  Ginger contains gingerol, a substance with high medicinal qualities. Beside being highly anti-inflammatory, it aids in digestion and stomach upset, is effective in exercise-induced pain and day-to-day stressors, it has shown to be effective in osteoarthritis discomfort, it lowers blood sugar and improves heart heath, it may reduce menstrual pain, may lower cholesterol, studies have shown it has anti-cancer properties, it fights infections and promotes brain health. 
  • Organic Turmeric Root...just like with ginger, I use the fresh pressed turmeric root or the root itself. Peeled of course. This root is by far one of my favorites. It has been clinically proven to work as well as cortisone and other pain relievers without all the side effects. Turmeric suppresses systemic inflammation markers, it calms down the inflammatory response to unwanted pathogens in the body, improves circulation and brain health. Turmeric is basically great for anything inflamed or causing pain. 

I do have to mention that my brew might be an acquired taste for some. It’s spicy and warm and if you put too much ginger in, you will know.

Play around with the right amounts until you find a combo that works for you. A little goes along way. 

One word of caution, just like with medicine, there is always a chance you could be sensitive to any food, herb or spice. Please stop if you feel any significant adverse reactions.

I am one of the most sensitive people in the world yet this Rise Up Well brew works for me every time.  So tomorrow morning give this healthy anti-inflammatory concoction a try and you will truly Rise Up Well.
